Description
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars.
SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. Our teams are building the full Super Intelligence stack: from our Colossus supercomputers, to Grok models, to our suite of applications, including Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X. We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next.

About this role
This Lead Engineer role at Xai involves designing and overseeing electrical power systems for new power generation plants and infrastructure. You'll lead a team of engineers while collaborating across disciplines—electrical, mechanical, controls, and others—to deliver detailed designs for distribution systems, switchgear, generators, UPS units, grounding systems, and related plant controls. The work spans both new installations and troubleshooting of existing equipment, with responsibility for ensuring all designs meet applicable electrical codes and standards including NEC, NFPA, and IEEE requirements.
The role demands someone with at least three years of professional experience in electrical projects and power systems, ideally with additional management experience and a background specifically in power generation. You should be comfortable reading schematics and technical manuals, working with medium voltage distribution, VFDs, and control systems. A PE license is preferred but not required. Success here requires strong prioritization and communication skills, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and the self-direction to operate with autonomy in a fast-paced environment.
This is an in-office position in Southaven, Mississippi, at a small, flat-structured organization where hands-on contribution and initiative are expected from all levels. If you have solid electrical engineering fundamentals, some power systems background, and thrive working directly on complex technical problems rather than in a hierarchical structure, this could be a strong fit.
