About this role

Tactacam is looking for a senior backend developer to architect and build scalable AWS-based services supporting their outdoor camera platform and 500,000+ active customers worldwide. You'd own the design and implementation of customer-facing APIs and backend systems, working with core AWS services like Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, and API Gateway while making strategic technology decisions alongside product and engineering leadership. This role demands someone comfortable operating at scale—designing for high throughput, massive datasets, and horizontal scaling—and collaborating across teams in an Agile environment to ship features that enhance the mobile user experience.

You'll need at least five years of hands-on experience in system design, AWS deployment, and Node.js/TypeScript development, plus demonstrated proficiency with Git workflows, testing frameworks, and AWS monitoring tools. AWS certifications are preferred but not required. The position is remote, though Tactacam prefers candidates in or willing to relocate to Billings, Montana.

Beyond the technical challenge, Tactacam positions itself as an outdoor-focused company culture—you'd get employee discounts on gear, company-sponsored trips, flexible remote work, and generous paid leave including "Hunting Holidays" for outdoor activities. The benefits package covers health, dental, vision, life insurance, and a 401(k), with recognition programs tied to company values like innovation and customer focus.
