About this role

WBIR-TV Knoxville's Technology team is looking for a Broadcast Engineer to manage the technical backbone of a 24/7 news operation. You'd handle hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting across traditional broadcast hardware, IT systems, and software—from the studio to the transmitter site to remote broadcast vehicles. The work spans routine tasks like security updates and equipment repairs alongside occasional field deployments and minor building maintenance. This is a role that demands someone comfortable juggling multiple projects while staying responsive to immediate operational needs.

The ideal candidate brings 5–7 years of broadcast engineering experience and strong fundamentals in computer hardware, networking, and Active Directory environments. You'll need solid communication and organizational skills to document systems, report on project status, and coordinate solutions across the team. The position requires flexibility—nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call availability are part of the schedule—plus physical capability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work with hand and power tools.

TEGNA offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield; a 401(k) with immediate 100% matching on the first 4% of contributions; generous PTO and nine paid holidays; and access to virtual healthcare and mental health support for all employees. Note that the job description lists this as full-time, though the posting header indicates part-time; you may want to clarify employment status before applying.
