Description

Overview

We are seeking a Application Engineer to join our global infrastructure and platform engineering team, helping build software-driven automation for InterSystems Kubernetes-based managed services and SaaS platforms.

You will work with software engineers, Kubernetes architects, DevOps, SRE, and security teams to develop reliable, secure, production-ready platform capabilities. The role combines Go development with hands-on Kubernetes experience, with a focus on turning repeatable operational processes into maintainable platform software.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Kubernetes-native software in Go, including controllers, Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs), reconciliation logic, and automation components.
  • Build automation for provisioning, configuration, upgrades, scaling, recovery, and other managed service workflows.
  • Write maintainable Go code and develop unit, integration, and cluster-based tests.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines for building, testing, packaging, and releasing Kubernetes platform software.
  • Integrate with Kubernetes networking, storage, ingress, certificates, scheduling, security, and cluster lifecycle capabilities.
  • Contribute to automation using Helm, Terraform, GitOps, Argo CD, Flux, and related tooling.
  • Implement secure defaults, least-privilege RBAC, secrets handling, workload isolation, and operational guardrails.
  • Build observable and supportable software using logs, metrics, events, health checks, and status conditions.
  • Troubleshoot Kubernetes workloads, controller behaviour, failed reconciliations, deployments, and automation issues.
  • Collaborate with engineering, SRE, security, and application teams, and contribute to documentation, runbooks, and knowledge sharing.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, infrastructure automation, cloud engineering, or SRE.
  • Experience developing in Go, or strong software engineering experience with the ability to work in Go.
  • Practical experience with Kubernetes, containers, Linux, and cloud-native deployment patterns.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes APIs, CRDs, controllers, reconciliation loops, RBAC, events, status conditions, and resource lifecycle.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and code review.
  • Working knowledge of Helm, Terraform, GitOps, Argo CD, Flux, or similar tooling.
  • Understanding of Kubernetes security concepts including RBAC, secrets, namespaces, network policies, admission controls, and workload isolation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Kubebuilder, Operator SDK, controller-runtime, client-go, or similar frameworks.
  • Experience developing Kubernetes Operators, controllers, admission webhooks, or platform automation.
  • Experience with EKS, AKS, GKE, Rancher, Spectro Cloud, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Fluent Bit, ELK/EFK, Istio, Linkerd, Cilium, Velero, Kasten, or Stash.
  • Open-source contributions to Kubernetes, Go, cloud-native, or platform engineering projects.
  • Relevant certifications such as CKAD, CKA, CKS, Terraform Associate, or LFCS.

About this role

InterSystems is building Kubernetes-based managed services and SaaS platforms, and this role sits at the intersection of platform engineering and software development. You'd be writing Go code to automate operational workflows—provisioning, scaling, upgrades, recovery—by developing controllers, Custom Resource Definitions, and reconciliation logic that turn manual processes into reliable, production-ready capabilities. The work spans the full stack: Kubernetes APIs and lifecycle management, security implementation (RBAC, secrets, workload isolation), observability (logs, metrics, health checks), and troubleshooting failed deployments and automation.

You'll need at least three years in software engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, or SRE, with solid Go experience or the ability to pick it up quickly. Practical Kubernetes knowledge is essential—not just theory, but hands-on work with containers, Linux, and cloud-native patterns. Familiarity with Helm, Terraform, GitOps tools like Argo CD or Flux, and Kubernetes security concepts will set you up well. The role also expects strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering, SRE, and security teams.

This is an in-office position in Dublin. If you've built platform automation, worked with Kubernetes operators or controllers, or contributed to cloud-native projects, and you're comfortable moving between infrastructure tooling and Go development, this role aligns with that background.
