About this role
American Equity's Senior Actuarial Associate role centers on principle-based reserve valuation for annuity products under VM-22 regulations. You'd own key pieces of the quarterly valuation cycle—running reserve calculations, reconciling results, validating models, and investigating what's driving changes in the numbers. The work spans actuarial modeling, financial reporting, and cross-functional collaboration with teams in Actuarial, Finance, Investments, Product, and Technology to ensure valuations are accurate and delivered on schedule.
The position demands solid technical depth. You'll need at least two years of actuarial experience and three completed exams, with hands-on exposure to annuity products and valuation work. Programming skills in VBA, SQL, or R are highly valued, as is familiarity with actuarial platforms like MG-ALFA, PathWise, or Prophet. You should be comfortable in Excel at an intermediate level, comfortable querying SQL databases, and able to move between detailed modeling work and explaining reserve movements to management.
This role suits someone ready to deepen expertise in a specialized area of actuarial practice. You'll work in Des Moines on-site, supporting a large annuity business within Brookfield Wealth Solutions, with opportunities to engage across the enterprise including American National in Houston. There's room to grow your technical toolkit and take on increasingly complex valuation challenges.
