What You'll Do

- Collaborate across teams and time zones: Work closely with platform engineers in Chicago, contributing to a global team that operates 24/7 infrastructure across multiple regions and datacenters.
- Shape platform evolution: Contribute to architectural decisions, evaluate new technologies, and help drive platform modernization initiatives — including migration strategies, multi-region resilience, and infrastructure standardization.
Who You Are: The Essential Profile
- Hands-on platform engineering experience: You have 7+ years of experience with platform, infrastructure, or software engineering.
- Linux proficiency: Advanced skills in system administration, networking (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls), and security fundamentals. Comfortable troubleshooting complex issues across the stack.
- Container technologies expertise: Hands-on experience with Kubernetes at scale, cluster operations, networking, troubleshooting. Familiarity with HashiCorp tools (Terraform, Consul, Nomad, Vault) and GitOps workflows (ArgoCD).
- On-prem / bare-metal experience: Comfortable operating on-prem infrastructure (i.e. outside of public cloud), bare-metal provisioning, hardware lifecycle, storage, and datacenter operations.
- Strong scripting and programming skills: Intermediate-to-advanced Bash proficiency and intermediate-to-advanced skills in Python or Go. Ability to build production-quality tooling and automation.
- Nice to have: Prior experience in FinTech or regulated industries where reliability and security are paramount. Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet), load balancers (HAProxy, Nginx, etc) and infrastructure-as-code at scale.

About this role
Adyen's Container Services team operates the infrastructure backbone for a global payments platform serving companies like Meta, Uber, and Microsoft. As a Senior Platform Engineer in Chicago, you'd own the design, implementation, and operation of Kubernetes-based container orchestration across private cloud environments, working on problems that directly impact transaction processing at scale. Beyond day-to-day infrastructure management, you'd drive automation initiatives to reduce operational toil, participate in on-call rotations, and contribute to architectural decisions around multi-region resilience and platform modernization.
This role demands deep hands-on expertise: seven or more years in platform or infrastructure engineering, advanced Linux and networking knowledge, and production-grade experience with Kubernetes at scale. You'll need strong scripting abilities in Bash and either Python or Go, plus familiarity with HashiCorp tools and GitOps workflows. Critically, this position emphasizes on-premises and bare-metal infrastructure operations—datacenter management, hardware lifecycle, and provisioning outside public cloud environments—which sets it apart from cloud-focused platform roles. Experience in fintech or regulated industries is valued but not required.
The position is full-time, in-office in Chicago with an expectation of at least three days per week on-site, and offers a base salary of $180,000 to $243,000 plus equity, 401(k), and standard benefits. You'll collaborate with a distributed global team operating infrastructure across multiple regions and time zones.
