  • Strong product judgment and a practical approach to making progress through ambiguity.

  • Curiosity about how systems work and a willingness to learn deeply, collaborate openly, and incorporate feedback from users and teammates.

Bonus Points

  • Experience building internal tools used by daily power users.
  • Experience designing or building REST APIs with a server-side language such as Python.
  • Familiarity with relational databases and SQL.
  • Familiarity with Next.js, Material UI, or a similar component library.

About this role

Coalition's Underwriting Workbench team is looking for a frontend engineer to build the platform that powers their underwriters' decision-making. You'd be responsible for creating fast, reliable interfaces for a data-heavy application, with particular focus on making AI-assisted workflows clear and trustworthy. This means working closely with underwriters themselves to understand their actual workflows, then translating those insights into product improvements alongside Product, Design, and Engineering partners.

The role requires solid fundamentals: at least two years of professional development experience with TypeScript, React, and REST APIs, plus the ability to diagnose and solve performance and reliability issues in complex applications. You should be comfortable managing intricate application state—tables, filters, saved views, synchronized workflows—and have a practical mindset for making progress when requirements aren't perfectly clear. Experience building internal tools for power users is particularly valuable here, as is familiarity with cybersecurity or insurtech contexts.

This is a fully remote position based in California, with base salary ranging from $128,500 to $160,600 depending on your location within Canada (the company's compensation structure reflects Canadian labor markets). Benefits include full medical, dental, and vision coverage, flexible PTO, home office stipend, and wellness programs.
