Description
Opportunity
ThermalWorks has an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about sustainability and eager to be part of an innovative company that’s on a journey to transform the world’s infrastructure.
We are seeking an R&D Engineer to join the R&D team, to design, prototype, test, and validate new cooling products and product improvements - from concept through handoff to manufacturing. You will work hands-on with refrigeration circuits, hydronics, and controls, and will turn test data into design decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to:
• Design and develop new cooling products and improvements to existing platforms — chillers, CDUs, and supporting systems
• Plan and execute validation and performance testing; analyze results and drive design changes from the data
• Build and iterate prototypes, working hands-on in the lab and test environment
• Perform thermal, refrigeration, and hydronic system calculations and component selection
• Support the transition of new designs from R&D to manufacturing, resolving design-for-manufacturability issues
• Document designs, test procedures, and results to engineering standards
• Incorporate field and application feedback into product improvements
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• 5+ years of engineering experience in refrigeration, HVAC, or cooling product development
• Hands-on experience with prototype builds and lab testing of thermal systems
• Strong grasp of refrigeration cycles, heat transfer, and hydronic system design
• Ability to analyze test data and translate results into design decisions
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience developing chillers, CDUs, or liquid cooling for data center applications
• Familiarity with controls development and system instrumentation
• Advanced degree in Mechanical or Thermal EngineeringWorking at Endeavour

About this role
ThermalWorks, part of Endeavour's infrastructure platform, is building next-generation cooling systems for data centers. This part-time R&D Engineer role offers hands-on work across the full product development cycle—from designing new chillers and cooling distribution units through prototype testing, validation, and manufacturing handoff. You'll work directly with refrigeration circuits, hydronics, and controls, using test data to drive design decisions and solve real thermal engineering challenges.
The role demands solid fundamentals: a mechanical engineering degree, at least five years in refrigeration or HVAC product development, and proven ability to build prototypes and run lab tests. You'll need to own thermal calculations, component selection, and the translation of field feedback into product improvements. Experience with data center liquid cooling or controls development is valued but not required.
This is a remote position with flexibility to work part-time, though the job description notes 25% travel to test facilities. It suits someone who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, values autonomy, and wants to contribute to infrastructure that addresses sustainability at scale.
Pay for this role
