About the Role

We are seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to lead System-Level and Infrastructure Testing locally in our San Jose lab. You will bridge physical/on-prem hardware dependencies with containerized Kubernetes topologies and cloud edge environments, serving as the hands-on technical owner for end-to-end platform stability, hardware/software integration, and deployment verification.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain end-to-end local test environments in San Jose, mirroring edge-to-cloud topologies, hardware interfaces, and localized system deployments
  • Architect local Kubernetes clusters (e.g., K3s, Kind, Minikube) and cloud emulator harnesses (AWS LocalStack, Azure Edge) to enable fully offline, system-level validation
  • Profile OS-level resource usage (CPU, memory leaks, I/O bottlenecks, network latency) and run hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or local service-level automated suites
  • Maintain the physical/virtual San Jose lab environment, building automated orchestration tools to reset, patch, and reconfigure test rigs deterministically

What You'll Bring

  • 8+ years in system-level SDET, platform engineering, or embedded/infrastructure software testing
  • Advanced programming skills in C++, Python, or Go with strong Linux internals, networking protocols (TCP/IP, sockets), and IPC knowledge
  • Deep hands-on experience with Kubernetes, container runtimes, and local cloud emulation (AWS/Azure)
  • Experience in managing physical or virtual lab testbeds, edge hardware topologies, or local hardware-software integration loops

What you'll get

  • Unlimited paid time off, 12 paid holidays including 4 global VeeaMe Days for self-care and 24 paid volunteer hours annually through Veeam Cares
  • Paid parental leave: 8 weeks for all parents, 16 weeks for birthing parents

About this role

Veeam is looking for a Staff SDET to own system-level and infrastructure testing for their data resilience platform, working hands-on in their San Jose lab. You'd be the technical lead responsible for building and maintaining end-to-end test environments that bridge physical hardware, containerized Kubernetes clusters, and cloud edge topologies—essentially creating a complete mirror of their production landscape locally to validate platform stability, hardware-software integration, and deployment verification before code reaches customers.

The work is deeply technical and infrastructure-focused. You'll architect local Kubernetes setups using tools like K3s and cloud emulators (AWS LocalStack, Azure Edge), profile OS-level resource usage to catch performance bottlenecks, run hardware-in-the-loop test suites, and maintain the physical and virtual lab environment with automated orchestration. This role demands 8+ years of system-level testing or platform engineering experience, advanced programming in C++, Python, or Go, and strong knowledge of Linux internals, networking protocols, and container runtimes. If you've worked with edge hardware topologies, lab testbeds, or embedded systems integration, this aligns directly with what Veeam needs.

This is an in-office position in San Jose with a compensation range of $250,400–$465,100. Note that the listing specifies "volunteer" employment type, which may warrant clarification during the application process.
