About Nimble

Nimble is an AI robotics company building the autonomous supply chain to power fast, efficient and economical commerce. We’re training robot AGI to power a proprietary generalist supply chain superhumanoid, the first robot in the world capable of performing thousands of tasks across the supply chain. We’ve raised over $220M at over $1B valuation and formed a strategic alliance with FedEx to build a national network of autonomous warehouses capable of generating many billions in annual revenue. We are a hardcore and obsessed team of the world’s best engineers and operators. If you are obsessed with your craft, enjoy a high-intensity and fast moving high impact environment, are super high agency in getting hard things done and want to be part of building the world’s most legendary robotics company at the most pivotal moment in history, we want to work with you.

We are on a mission to empower and inspire mankind to accomplish legendary feats by inventing robots that liberate us from the menial. We will accomplish this by training robot AGI to invent and build the Autonomous Supply Chain – everything from the inside of factories and warehouses to your front door – powered by generalist superhumanoids.

Our founding team comes from the AI labs at Stanford and Carnegie Mellon and our board of directors include famed robotics and AI legends including Fei-Fei Li (Chief Scientist of AI at Google and Director of Stanford’s AI Lab), Marc Raibert (founder of Boston Dynamics), and Sebastian Thrun (founder of GoogleX, Waymo; Stanford Professor and considered the father of autonomous vehicles).

Let’s be legendary.

Role Overview

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will design motor controller boards and power distribution boards for our robotic platforms. You will own the work from architecture and component selection through validation and production. You will work with mechanical, firmware, controls, and software engineers to build hardware that performs under real operating conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design motor controller boards, power distribution boards, and other high-power electronics for robotic platforms
  • Own power-stage architecture, schematic capture, component selection, and PCB layout reviews for MOSFETs, gate drivers, current sensing, protection circuits, and thermal management
  • Define grounding, power sequencing, fault handling, and interfaces among batteries, motors, sensors, and compute systems
  • Develop drive electronics and interfaces to commutation with control firmware
  • Work with firmware, controls, mechanical, and software engineers to integrate and test each system
  • Write and run validation plans for efficiency, thermal performance, transient response, fault conditions, EMC/EMI, and environmental limits
  • Diagnose power integrity, motor control, thermal, and reliability failures in the lab and on deployed robots
  • Take designs through DFM, certification, production testing, and manufacturing ramp
  • Drive team’s electrical design best practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s degree, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 4+ years designing power electronics, motor drives, or high-current embedded hardware
  • Experience designing motor controller boards, power distribution boards, DC/DC converters, inverters, or related power systems
  • Knowledge of power semiconductors, gate drives, current and voltage sensing, magnetics, protection circuits, and control loops
  • Experience with thermal analysis, power integrity, grounding, creepage and clearance, and high-current PCB layout
  • Proficiency with Altium, OrCAD, KiCad, or a comparable PCB design tool
  • Ability to run circuit, power electronics, and thermal simulations to validate designs before hardware testing
  • Familiarity with embedded systems and protocols such as SPI, I2C, CAN, and UART
  • Lab experience with oscilloscopes, current probes, electronic loads, power analyzers, and thermal cameras
  • A record of shipping hardware products to production
  • Knowledge of EMC/EMI design, functional safety, and regulatory compliance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Power electronics experience in electric vehicles, mobile robots, industrial robotics, or autonomous systems
  • Experience with three-phase BLDC/PMSM motor drives, field-oriented control, regenerative braking, and motor characterization
  • Experience with batteries, battery management systems, pre-charge circuits, contactors, fusing, and high-current or high-voltage distribution
  • Knowledge of embedded firmware, motor-control algorithms, and low-level software interfaces
  • Experience developing high-reliability or safety-critical systems
  • Familiarity with DFM, DFA, production testing, and manufacturing processes
  • A record of learning new design methods and applying AI tools to component research, circuit analysis, design reviews, documentation, or debugging

Compensation

The pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $180,000 and $230,000/year. About this role

Nimble Robotics is building autonomous robots for supply chain work, and this role sits at the core of that mission: designing the power electronics that will drive their robotic platforms. You'd own motor controller and power distribution boards from initial architecture through production, working across the full lifecycle—component selection, schematic and layout, validation testing, and manufacturing ramp. This means designing for real operating conditions, not just the lab, and troubleshooting failures both on the bench and in deployed systems.

The work demands deep expertise in power electronics fundamentals: MOSFETs, gate drivers, current sensing, thermal management, and the integration of batteries, motors, sensors, and compute. You'll need to validate designs across efficiency, thermal performance, fault handling, and EMC/EMI, and collaborate closely with firmware, controls, and mechanical teams to get commutation, power sequencing, and grounding right. The role also includes driving design best practices across the team and shepherding designs through DFM and certification.

This is a fit if you have 4+ years shipping power electronics or motor drive hardware to production, hands-on lab skills with the right test equipment, and proficiency in PCB design tools. Experience with robotics, EVs, or safety-critical systems is a plus, as is familiarity with three-phase motor drives and battery management. The role is in-office in San Francisco and offers a salary of $180,000–$230,000.
