About the Role

We are seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) specializing in Data Connectors & High-Scale Ingestion. In this role, you will be the technical authority responsible for designing testing frameworks and benchmarking tools that validate multi-source data integration pipelines processing petabyte-scale throughput across AWS, Azure, and Kubernetes.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and execute scalable performance, backpressure, and stress-testing harnesses for ingestion connectors (REST, gRPC, CDC, Kafka, RabbitMQ)
  • Build automation suites across AWS (S3, SQS, Kinesis, EKS) and Azure (Event Hubs, Blob, AKS) to test real-world connector data flows under degraded network conditions and extreme concurrency
  • Implement automated fault-injection pipelines (simulating schema drift, network partitions, rate limits, and authentication failures) to guarantee zero-data-loss execution
  • Utilize Kubernetes to dynamically orchestrate transient, high-concurrency test clusters and mock target endpoints at scale

What You’ll Bring

  • 8+ years of software engineering/SDET experience in C++, Java, Go, or Python
  • Deep experience in testing streaming architectures (Kafka, Event Hubs), queueing systems, and API protocols (gRPC, WebSockets, REST)
  • Hands-on proficiency with AWS, Azure, and Kubernetes (Helm, custom controllers, or K8s operators)
  • Proven track record building custom distributed load-generation tools (e.g., Locust, k6, custom Go/Java engines)

What you'll get

  • Unlimited paid time off, 12 paid holidays including 4 global VeeaMe Days for self-care and 24 paid volunteer hours annually through Veeam Cares
  • Paid parental leave: 8 weeks for all parents, 16 weeks for birthing parents
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage starting on your first day
  • Mental health support, therapy sessions, and digital wellness tools via our Employee Assistance Program
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions
  • Fertility, adoption, and surrogacy support through Maven, plus paid volunteer time
  • AirVet: 24/7 virtual veterinary care at no cost
  • Legal services, identity protection, and supplemental health insurance options
  • Tax-advantaged spending accounts for healthcare, dependent care, and commuting
  • Opportunities to learn and grow through on-demand libraries (LinkedIn Learning, O’Reilly), mentoring, workshops, and learning events like our annual Global Day of Learning

About this role

Veeam is looking for a Staff SDET to own the testing strategy for their data connector and ingestion platform, which processes petabyte-scale data flows across multiple cloud environments. You'll design and build the frameworks, automation suites, and fault-injection pipelines that validate real-world connector behavior under extreme conditions—network degradation, schema drift, rate limiting, authentication failures—across streaming protocols like Kafka, gRPC, and REST. The work spans AWS, Azure, and Kubernetes, requiring you to orchestrate high-concurrency test clusters and custom load-generation tools that guarantee zero-data-loss execution.

This role demands 8+ years of software engineering or SDET experience in languages like C++, Java, Go, or Python, combined with deep hands-on knowledge of streaming architectures, queueing systems, and cloud platforms. You'll need proven expertise building distributed load-generation tools and a strong grasp of Kubernetes orchestration. This is a technical authority position—you're not just writing tests, but architecting the entire testing infrastructure for a critical data platform at scale.

The position is based in San Jose and requires in-office work. Veeam offers competitive compensation ($250,400–$465,100), comprehensive health and wellness benefits, unlimited PTO, paid parental leave, and professional development resources. Note that this is listed as a volunteer role, which may warrant clarification during the application process.
