About this role

NYCEDC's Government and Community Partnerships Department is seeking an Assistant Vice President to shape the legislative and policy strategy behind the organization's economic development work across New York City. You'd serve as a strategic advisor to project teams and senior leadership, monitoring and analyzing legislation at city, state, and federal levels while developing policy recommendations and legislative strategies for major initiatives. The role demands strong political judgment and the ability to translate complex policy landscapes into actionable guidance for colleagues and stakeholders.

Your days would involve cultivating relationships with elected officials, agency representatives, unions, and community organizations to build support for NYCEDC projects and advance the organization's priorities around workforce development, infrastructure, and inclusive growth. You'd prepare testimony and briefing materials for governmental hearings, coordinate stakeholder engagement strategies, and respond to inquiries from elected officials. This is fundamentally a relationship and strategy role that requires you to work fluidly across internal teams—Legal, Public Affairs, Strategy—and external partners to align legislative priorities with project goals.

The position calls for at least five years in legislative affairs, government relations, or related policy work, with demonstrated expertise in New York's governmental processes and a track record building relationships with officials and agencies. Experience with labor organizations is preferred. You'll need strong writing and presentation skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and comfort attending evening meetings across the five boroughs. NYC residency is required within 180 days. The salary range is $100,000–$103,000, with comprehensive health benefits, up to 25 vacation days, summer Fridays, and parental leave.
