About this role
ON.energy is deploying utility-scale battery storage systems with their proprietary AI UPS technology, and they need an OT Systems Engineer to get these projects live. You'd be responsible for building and configuring the operational technology networks that connect control systems, energy management platforms, battery management systems, and SCADA infrastructure at active project sites. This is hands-on field work—you'll travel to sites during deployment and commissioning phases, troubleshoot connectivity issues under time pressure, and ensure reliable communication between all the components that keep these systems running safely and securely.
The role demands practical experience deploying industrial networks in energy, utilities, or similar environments, with solid TCP/IP fundamentals and hands-on familiarity with industrial networking gear like switches, routers, and firewalls. You should understand SCADA, PLCs, and control systems well enough to troubleshoot across network, software, and controls boundaries. Experience with utility-scale battery storage, solar, wind, or substation work is preferred, as is knowledge of cellular networking, VPNs, secure remote access, and industrial protocols like IEC 61850 or Modbus.
Success here means bringing new BESS sites online with stable, secure networks that support rather than delay commissioning timelines, resolving issues quickly with deployment and controls teams, and building documentation and standards that improve over time. This is a remote role based in Atlanta, but expect to spend up to 50% of your time traveling to project sites.
