Your Role

Join the Policy Engineering team and contribute to building an enterprise-grade cloud data governance platform used by Fortune 500 clients to manage and protect sensitive data across complex, multi-cloud environments.

  • Develop internal tooling, testing harnesses, and AI-assisted developer utilities that improve team productivity and engineering quality — owning small-to-medium scoped projects with real impact on day-to-day engineering workflows.
  • Write backend code in Go within a large, production-grade codebase — learning established patterns and conventions under the guidance of senior engineers and tech leads.
  • Build and maintain automated test suites and evaluation frameworks to validate system behavior, helping the team catch regressions and ensure correctness as the product evolves.
  • Explore and prototype AI/LLM-powered tooling to assist with development workflows — such as automated test generation, code analysis utilities, or documentation assistants.
  • Collaborate closely with senior engineers — attending design discussions, sprint planning, and code reviews as a participant, gaining exposure to how large-scale distributed systems are architected and delivered.
  • Ramp up on modern backend and cloud engineering practices including distributed systems concepts, event-driven architecture, multi-tenant SaaS design, and cloud infrastructure.

What you'll gain: Hands-on experience shipping real software in a production engineering environment, mentorship from senior engineers, and deep exposure to enterprise cloud and data platform engineering.

About this role

Veeam's Policy Engineering team is building cloud data governance infrastructure for Fortune 500 companies, and this summer internship puts you directly into that work. You'll own small-to-medium scoped projects—writing backend code in Go, building test suites and evaluation frameworks, and prototyping AI-powered developer tools. This isn't shadowing; you'll participate in design discussions, code reviews, and sprint planning alongside senior engineers who will mentor you through a production codebase serving real enterprise customers.

The role demands strong problem-solving skills, prior hands-on experience with AI tools, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. You should be entering your final year of a Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related degree program. The 10-week program (June–August 2027) is fully in-office in San Jose, five days a week, and includes structured onboarding, weekly professional development sessions, and networking events designed to support your growth.

Compensation is $40–50 per hour, plus paid company holidays, a tech stipend, eight hours of paid volunteer time, and professional development opportunities through the internship program. This is a solid opportunity to ship real software in a distributed systems environment and gain mentorship from engineers working on enterprise-scale cloud platforms.
