About this role
Cordell & Cordell's Summer Associate Program offers second-year law students a structured entry point into family law practice at the nation's largest domestic litigation firm. You'll work directly with a Litigation Partner on active cases, drafting legal documents, conducting research, attending court proceedings, and participating in client strategy sessions. The program is designed to replicate first-year associate work, giving you meaningful exposure to how the firm operates and how family law cases move through the litigation process.
The role pays $35 per hour and requires relocation to your assigned office for the summer. If you perform well, the firm often extends offers for part-time law clerk positions during your third year and full-time roles upon graduation, creating a clear pathway to employment. You'll also gain access to firm-sponsored networking events and professional development through Cordell College. The position is available across multiple offices nationwide, though the Charlotte listing is one option among many locations.
To apply, you'll need a 3.0 or higher law school GPA, demonstrated commitment to family law as a career, and the ability to relocate. Note that this internship does not include the firm's full benefits package or eligibility for bonuses and merit increases, so compensation is limited to the hourly rate.
