About this role

Kura Oncology is seeking an experienced IT leader to shape technology strategy and governance for a precision medicine biotech company. Reporting to the Head of IT, you'll develop and execute comprehensive IT strategy, manage the IT portfolio, drive digital transformation and AI adoption, and ensure systems supporting regulated drug development meet compliance standards. This role requires balancing innovation with rigor—you'll evaluate emerging technologies and lead AI governance while maintaining security policies, conducting vulnerability assessments, and supporting GxP validation for systems used in clinical and manufacturing processes.

The position demands both strategic vision and operational execution. You'll establish frameworks for IT portfolio management, change management, and AI governance; lead cross-functional collaboration with business units, Quality, and Compliance teams; and manage IT budget and forecasting. A significant part of the role involves preparing for and supporting regulatory audits (FDA, EMA), ensuring IT systems are validated and documented according to pharmaceutical standards, and driving organizational adoption of new technologies through effective communication and training programs.

Success here requires experience in biotech or regulated industries, demonstrated leadership in IT strategy and governance, and familiarity with GxP compliance, system validation, and security frameworks. You'll need strong stakeholder management skills, comfort with ambiguity in emerging areas like AI governance, and the ability to translate technical decisions into business value. This is an in-office role in San Diego, full-time, suited for someone who thrives in a mission-driven environment where precision and accountability matter as much as innovation.
