Description
Company Overview:
Beam Therapeutics is a biotechnology company committed to establishing the leading, fully integrated platform for precision genetic medicines. To achieve this vision, Beam has assembled a platform with integrated gene editing, delivery and internal manufacturing capabilities. Beam’s suite of gene editing technologies is anchored by base editing, a proprietary technology that is designed to enable precise, predictable and efficient single base changes, at targeted genomic sequences, without making double-stranded breaks in the DNA. This has the potential to enable a wide range of therapeutic editing strategies that Beam is using to advance a diversified portfolio of base editing programs. Beam is a values-driven organization committed to its people, cutting-edge science, and a vision of providing life-long cures to patients suffering from serious diseases.

About this role
Beam Therapeutics' LNP Development team is seeking a process engineering co-op for a six-month stint (January–June 2027) working on lipid nanoparticle formulation and manufacturing scale-up. You'd be hands-on in the lab, running experiments on LNP mixing, filtration, and tangential flow filtration processes while analyzing how critical parameters affect product quality and manufacturability. The role centers on troubleshooting, experimental design, and data-driven problem-solving to develop scalable formulations for the company's base editing therapeutic platform.
This is a fit for someone pursuing a degree in bioengineering, biochemistry, or a related field with at least a year of relevant lab or process development experience. You'll need solid skills in Excel and data analytics, comfort with process engineering fundamentals, and the ability to think critically about complex manufacturing challenges. The environment is collaborative and fast-paced, so you should be organized, communicative, and genuinely interested in learning drug delivery or bioprocess development.
You must be currently enrolled as a full-time student to be eligible. The role is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and pays $23–$34 per hour depending on your background and experience.
