As the Product Engineer – Defense Solutions, you will collaborate with customers, industry teams, and other product development team members to design, develop, and support the right geospatial solutions for defense agencies. Responsibilities
- Discover customer needs and craft geospatial solutions that cater to the defense industry
- Configure ArcGIS apps, tools, and information models for industry-specific uses
- Provide input into product design aspects to assure our products are simple to use and provide a great experience for our customers
- Work closely with customers, software development, business development, and professional services teams to define and develop solutions
- Draft and review ArcGIS Solutions product briefs, presentations, and documentation
- Design and author test cases for functionality, performance, scalability, and durability; execute both manual and automated tests, analyze test results, and report results
- Continually assess product quality, release readiness, and maintain existing ArcGIS Solutions
- Present and evangelize solutions to internal and external audiences
Requirements
- 2+ years of professional experience in the defense industry along with experience in applying ArcGIS to support specific industry workflows
- Demonstrated ability to document and build GIS workflows
- Creative problem solver and a team player
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in geography or related field
Recommended Qualifications
- Knowledge of defense and intelligence workflows
- Programming experience with scripting languages, such as Python or Arcade
- Experience with configuring web-based GIS applications
- Experience with ArcGIS Pro

About this role
Esri's Defense Solutions team is looking for a Product Engineer II who bridges customer needs and geospatial technology. In this role, you'll work directly with defense agencies to understand their operational challenges, then configure and customize ArcGIS tools to solve them. You'll move between discovery conversations with customers, hands-on solution design and testing, and internal collaboration with software developers and business teams to refine how products work for this specialized sector.
The position requires at least two years in the defense industry with proven experience applying ArcGIS to real workflows, plus a bachelor's degree in geography or a related field. You should be comfortable documenting GIS processes, writing test cases, and communicating technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Programming skills in Python or Arcade, familiarity with ArcGIS Pro, and experience configuring web-based GIS applications are valuable but not required to apply.
This is a full-time, in-office role in Philadelphia with a base salary range of $79,664 to $133,120. Esri offers comprehensive health benefits, retirement programs with profit-sharing, a minimum of 80 vacation hours annually, and twelve paid holidays.
