About this role

MG Properties, a 30-year-old real estate investment and property management firm operating across the Western United States, is looking for a Tax Accountant to join its San Diego office full-time. You would work directly under the Tax Director, handling the tax preparation function for the company's extensive portfolio of apartment communities and affiliated partnerships. The role centers on preparing federal Form 1065 partnership returns, Schedule K-1s, and state tax returns for over 100 entities annually, with a critical focus on meeting the unextended March 15 filing deadline for investor distributions.

The position demands strong technical skills in Excel and tax accounting fundamentals, particularly the ability to work with complex multi-tiered partnership structures, calculate book-to-tax differences, and manage large volumes of filings across federal and state jurisdictions. You'll also handle individual tax returns, coordinate extension filings, process quarterly state and local tax obligations, and communicate with taxing authorities. This is detail-oriented work requiring you to juggle competing priorities independently while maintaining accuracy across numerous entities and tight deadlines.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and brings experience with partnership tax structures and real estate taxation. A CPA or EA credential, familiarity with CCH Axcess software, and prior real estate or partnership tax work are all preferred but not required. The salary range is $72,500 to $90,000 depending on experience, with benefits including profit sharing, 401(k) matching, comprehensive health coverage, and 22 days of paid time off annually.
