Description

Company Overview:

Beam Therapeutics is a biotechnology company committed to establishing the leading, fully integrated platform for precision genetic medicines. To achieve this vision, Beam has assembled a platform with integrated gene editing, delivery and internal manufacturing capabilities. Beam’s suite of gene editing technologies is anchored by base editing, a proprietary technology that is designed to enable precise, predictable and efficient single base changes, at targeted genomic sequences, without making double-stranded breaks in the DNA. This has the potential to enable a wide range of therapeutic editing strategies that Beam is using to advance a diversified portfolio of base editing programs. Beam is a values-driven organization committed to its people, cutting-edge science, and a vision of providing life-long cures to patients suffering from serious diseases.

About this role

Beam Therapeutics is looking for a co-op student to contribute directly to antibody discovery and optimization over a six-month assignment starting January 2027. You'll work hands-on with screening, characterization, and protein production using standard biotherapeutics techniques—Octet, ELISA, SEC, thermal stability analysis, mammalian cell culture, and protein purification. The role sits within a real drug discovery pipeline, meaning your work will feed into programs moving toward clinical development in a collaborative, fast-paced setting.

This position suits someone pursuing a degree in biological sciences, bioengineering, biochemistry, or a related field who already has at least a year of lab experience and solid grounding in molecular and biochemical methods. You'll need to be comfortable with detailed documentation, protocol adherence, and data analysis in Excel, plus the ability to communicate across a multidisciplinary team. The work is in-office in Cambridge and requires you to maintain active student enrollment throughout the co-op period.
