This is a 12-week internship during summer 2027.

As a Product Design Intern, you'll spend 12 weeks embedded on a product team solving real design problems across Coinbase's core products including Coinbase app, Prime, Coinbase Wallet, and more. You'll partner with researchers, designers, product managers, and engineers to turn a product idea into a tangible user experience, contributing to large-scale design challenges that help millions of people engage with the crypto economy.

What you'll do:

  • Own a product design project end-to-end, translating a product concept into a polished user experience across mobile and/or web platforms with coaching from an intern manager
  • Partner with your product team and cross-functional stakeholders to define user needs, explore solutions, and validate design directions
  • Lead presentations of your work in group design critiques, incorporating feedback to strengthen your solutions
  • Build high-fidelity prototypes in Figma to socialize design concepts and collaborate closely with engineering on implementation
  • Collaborate with engineers to build and ship PRs using AI-assisted coding tools, translating your designs into production-ready front-end changes
  • Apply human-centered design methods and structured problem-solving frameworks to navigate complex, ambiguous product challenges

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to use design tools (Figma, Cursor, etc.) to create user flows, wireframes, or visual designs, evidenced by a portfolio or project samples
  • Completed at least one design project (academic, personal, or professional) that shows end-to-end thinking from problem definition through visual execution
  • Basic familiarity with cryptocurrency concepts and Coinbase's role in the ecosystem, with demonstrated curiosity to learn more
  • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality

About this role

Coinbase is looking for a Product Design Intern to spend 12 weeks this summer embedded on a product team working on real design challenges across their core offerings—the Coinbase app, Prime, Coinbase Wallet, and more. You'd own a design project end-to-end, moving from problem definition through high-fidelity prototypes in Figma, then collaborate with engineers to ship front-end code. The work involves partnering with researchers, product managers, and engineers to solve complex, ambiguous problems that affect millions of users in the crypto economy.

To succeed here, you need a portfolio or project samples demonstrating proficiency with design tools like Figma and Cursor, plus evidence of at least one complete design project showing your thinking from problem through execution. Basic knowledge of cryptocurrency and Coinbase's place in that ecosystem is expected, along with comfort using generative AI tools responsibly as part of your workflow. The role is hybrid based in San Francisco, with quarterly in-person "surge" sessions, and pays $60 per hour.

This internship suits designers ready for intensity and high standards. Coinbase explicitly values people who push past their limits and refuse to settle, so expect a demanding environment where you'll present work in design critiques, incorporate feedback quickly, and see your designs move into production. If you thrive on real-world impact and want to build experience shipping actual products, this is a strong opportunity.
