About this role
Zscaler is seeking a Senior Staff Software Development Engineer to lead the control plane engineering for its Zero Trust Exchange platform, specifically working on the Zscaler Internet Access and ZDX products. You'll manage a team of 6–12 engineers while owning significant components of a large-scale distributed system, with a hybrid schedule in Bangalore (three days weekly in office). The role demands both hands-on technical depth and leadership capability—you'll define technical roadmaps, mentor engineers through hiring and career development, and drive observability practices across the platform.
The position requires at least 10 years of software engineering experience with strong Go or Java skills, deep expertise in networking protocols (DNS, HTTP, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS), and proficiency with Kubernetes and container infrastructure. You should be comfortable designing high-throughput, low-latency systems and have foundational knowledge of AI/ML technologies, including experience with agentic AI systems. Familiarity with monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana, plus the ability to debug complex distributed systems, is essential. Experience with control plane design patterns, gRPC, Protobuf, and integrating LLM capabilities into workflows would strengthen your candidacy.
This role suits someone who operates well in ambiguity, balances strategic thinking with hands-on execution, and is driven by solving real customer problems at scale. You'll partner across SRE, Support, and Customer Success teams to reduce incidents and improve product quality, making this a position for an engineer who sees ownership as central to their work.
