About this role
Muon Space is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to lead the development of simulation infrastructure that underpins their satellite constellation operations. You'd be responsible for building and maintaining in-house simulation services used across business development, mission design, operations, and flight software teams. This role sits at the intersection of high-performance computing and reliable web services—you'll design architectures, integrate complex physical models into production systems, and drive iterative improvements based on feedback from internal stakeholders. You'll also mentor other engineers and help shape best practices across the Simulation and Test teams.
The ideal candidate has 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong Python and C++ skills, plus a demonstrated ability to collaborate across specialized domains. You should be comfortable breaking down complex technical problems into clear proposals and working closely with domain experts—in this case, physicists and mission engineers. A computer science degree or equivalent is expected. Experience with numerical simulation, statistical analysis, or orbital operations would be valuable, though the role emphasizes adaptability in novel technical areas over checking every box.
Based in San Jose with a hybrid arrangement (three days on-site), this position offers a salary of $213,000–$237,000 plus equity and comprehensive benefits including three weeks paid vacation, unlimited sick time, and paid parental leave. Note that this role requires U.S. person status or export authorization eligibility due to ITAR/EAR regulations.
