Description

Navan is looking for a Senior Android Engineer to design, build, and enhance our mobile applications in the business expense management space.

As a key contributor, you will work closely with our international team of engineers and domain experts to build new features and improve our product. We are looking for engineers who can deliver high-quality work, can lead complex projects and contribute to clear technical direction.

Required qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience developing high-quality Android applications.
  • Strong understanding of the full app development lifecycle.
  • Proficiency in Kotlin and building user interfaces with Jetpack Compose.
  • Solid understanding of the Android SDK:
    • App components (Activities, Services, receivers, providers) and how they fit together.
    • How the Android applications you develop fit into the Android OS lifecycle: notifications, deep links, battery modes, network state, persisting data, and permissions.
    • Performance tuning and optimization.
    • Gradle builds and modules.
  • Strong understanding of concurrency practices and experience working with coroutines;
  • Must be capable of making architectural judgment calls based on real data and requirements.
    • Working knowledge of MVVM and standard multi-tier architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and publishing to the Play Store.
  • Solid foundation in data structures and algorithms, with a focus on delivering testable, scalable, and maintainable code.
  • Experience using AI / LLM tools in day-to-day development, including how to keep quality, review standards, and security intact when you use them.
  • Experience with modern Android frameworks such as Dagger/Hilt and OkHttp/Retrofit,
  • Experience building automated test suites with Espresso/kakao and a clear view of what belongs in unit, integration, and UI tests.
  • Familiarity with:
    • Accessibility best practices for mobile applications.
    • OAuth, mobile app authentication, and data safety.
    • Material Design principles, mobile UX practices, and patterns.

What you will do:

  • Design, build, and ship Android features in a large production app;
  • Contribute to Android infrastructure so delivery stays fast and reliable.
  • Review code, give feedback to other developers, and write technical documentation to improve coding practices and code quality.
  • Lead development initiatives, whether by introducing new technologies or by raising the bar for existing code, practices, or architecture.
  • Take part in decisions with peers and stakeholders on technology, design, and product direction.
  • Triage product and application issues, and respond quickly to customer problems.

About this role

Navan's Berlin office is seeking a Senior Android Engineer to take ownership of features across a production mobile app serving the business expense management market. You'll work with an international engineering team to design and ship new capabilities while strengthening the underlying Android infrastructure—balancing feature velocity with reliability. The role expects you to lead technical initiatives, make architectural decisions grounded in real requirements, and raise standards through code review and documentation.

This position demands at least five years of professional Android development with deep expertise in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and the full Android lifecycle—from app components and OS integration to performance optimization and Play Store publishing. You should be comfortable with modern tooling like Gradle, Dagger/Hilt, and coroutines, and capable of writing testable, maintainable code within a multi-tier architecture. Experience with CI/CD, automated testing frameworks, and accessibility or authentication patterns is valued.

The role is in-office in Berlin and suits engineers who thrive on both shipping features and shaping technical direction. If you're comfortable triaging production issues, collaborating across teams on product decisions, and want to grow into a leadership capacity through technical influence, this could be a strong match.
