WHAT TO EXPECT
We’re on a mission to unlock the potential of space to improve life on Earth, but that’s not an easy task. It takes hard work, determination, relentless innovation, teamwork, grit, and an unwavering commitment to achieving what others often deem impossible. Our people out-think, out-work, and out-pace. We pride ourselves on having each other’s backs, checking our egos at the door, and rolling up our sleeves on all tasks big and small. We thrive under pressure, work to tight deadlines, and our focus is always on how we can deliver, rather than dwelling on the challenges that stand in the way.

About this role
Rocket Lab's Electron program is seeking a Senior GNC Engineer to own mission design and guidance, navigation, and control development for one of the world's most frequently-launched rockets. You'll split your time between trajectory optimization, auto-sequence planning, and Monte Carlo analysis on the mission design side, and GNC software development, algorithm work, and flight data analysis on the systems side. This is a hands-on role where you'll contribute across the full lifecycle—from pre-flight analysis through launch operations—while mentoring junior team members.
The position demands strong fundamentals: a degree in aerospace, software, mechatronics, or electronics engineering, plus at least five years of professional C/C++ and Python or MATLAB development experience, ideally including embedded or high-reliability systems work. You'll need to thrive under pressure and tight deadlines while communicating clearly across teams. Experience with mission optimization tools like GMAT, STK, or POST, or a publication record in guidance and control, would set you apart. Note that U.S. office candidates must meet ITAR citizenship or residency requirements; New Zealand candidates will undergo security background checks related to ITAR eligibility.
