WHAT TO EXPECT

We’re on a mission to unlock the potential of space to improve life on Earth, but that’s not an easy task. It takes hard work, determination, relentless innovation, teamwork, grit, and an unwavering commitment to achieving what others often deem impossible. Our people out-think, out-work, and out-pace. We pride ourselves on having each other’s backs, checking our egos at the door, and rolling up our sleeves on all tasks big and small. We thrive under pressure, work to tight deadlines, and our focus is always on how we can deliver, rather than dwelling on the challenges that stand in the way.

About this role

Rocket Lab's Electron team is seeking a GNC Engineer to support mission design and launch operations for one of the world's most frequently-launched rockets. You'll own trajectory optimization and design across orbital and suborbital missions, develop auto-sequence planning, run Monte Carlo analyses, and contribute to broader guidance, navigation, and control development for Electron and future vehicles. The role blends pre-flight analysis with hands-on launch operations, requiring you to move quickly between mission design, 6DOF simulation work, and verification tasks.

You'll need a degree in Aerospace, Mechatronics, or equivalent, with solid grounding in orbital mechanics and rigid body dynamics. One to two years of software development experience and relevant aerospace or rocketry work are essential. Python, MATLAB, GMAT, or STK experience, plus familiarity with trajectory propagation, will strengthen your candidacy. This is an in-office, full-time position based in Auckland or the US, and you must meet ITAR eligibility requirements for your location.
