Job summary
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a single engineering team to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure software solutions. This role focuses on day‑to‑day technical leadership, people management, and delivery execution within a defined product or platform area. The Engineering Manager works closely with Product, Architecture, and Operations to ensure the team delivers high‑quality outcomes aligned to roadmap and business goals.
What you will do
- Technical Leadership
- Lead technical execution for a specific product, service, or platform area.
- Ensure designs and implementations follow established architecture, security, and reliability standards.
- Promote best practices in coding, code review, testing, CI/CD, observability, and performance tuning.
- Partner with senior engineers and architects to plan and implement refactoring, modernization, and tech‑debt reduction.
- People & Team Management
- Manage, coach, and develop a team of software engineers and senior engineers.
- Set clear goals and performance expectations; provide regular feedback and run effective1:1s.
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and skill development to build a strong, diverse team.
- Delivery & Execution
- Collaborate with Product Management to refine scope, priorities, and release timelines for the team.
- Own sprint planning, execution, and delivery for the team’s backlog.
- Ensure high quality through testing, code reviews, and adherence to SDLC and compliance standards.
- Identify risks and blockers early and drive resolution through coordination with partner teams.
- Operational Excellence
- Monitor and improve the health of the services owned by the team (reliability, latency, errors, cost).
- Participate in incident management, on‑call rotations, and RCAs; ensure follow‑through on action items.
- Drive incremental improvements in stability, automation, and operational efficiency for the team's services.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product, Architecture, SRE/DevOps, Security, and QA to ensure alignment from design to release.
- Represent the team in project discussions, status updates, and stakeholder reviews.
- Translate product and business requirements into clear, actionable work for the team.
What you will have
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 2–4 years in a people‑leading role.
- Hands‑on experience building and operating services on modern cloud platforms(AWS/GCP/Azure) and frameworks (e.g., Java/Spring Boot, Node.js, or similar).
- Strong understanding of agile development, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
- Proven ability to lead a team to deliver high‑quality software on time.
Nice to have
- Experience working with distributed systems, APIs, and microservices.
- Exposure to platform engineering, SRE, or infrastructure/observability tooling.
- Experience collaborating with or leading cross‑geo or remote teams.
- Familiarity with security, compliance, or regulated SaaS environments.
- Interest or exposure to AI/ML or data‑driven product development.
