Position Summary 

We are looking to hire an entry level, Project Engineer for our newly award project on base at Fort Sam Houston in Five Points, Texas.  Candidates must possess a Construction Management Degree to be considered.  As our Project Engineer, you will provide critical support to the project team in scheduling, documentation, quality assurance, safety, and coordination. Working primarily on-site, you’ll collaborate with the Project Manager, and Superintendent to ensure seamless project execution from start-up to closeout. In this key role, you’ll need exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Your ability to manage project documentation, communicate effectively, and support safety and quality initiatives will be instrumental in maintaining project efficiency and fostering strong relationships with Owners, Architects, and Subcontractors. Only candidates with this level of experience will be considered.  This position is full-time Monday - Friday, with possible Saturday work.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Start-Up

  • Attend project handoff and preconstruction meetings to gain a full understanding of project goals and requirements.

  • Assist with scheduling and documentation preparation to support smooth project initiation.

Documentation Management

  • Maintain accurate records of submittals, RFIs, architect instructions, and updates to record set construction documents.

  • Ensure all correspondence with subcontractors and vendors is properly documented and reviewed with the Project Manager.

Subcontractor Coordination

  • Participate in subcontractor coordination and preconstruction meetings.

  • Document key discussions, decisions, and follow-ups to ensure alignment across the team.

Safety and Quality Support

  • Work with the Superintendent to enforce safety protocols and quality standards on-site.

  • Document and help resolve safety or quality issues proactively.

On-Site Support

  • Provide daily support to the Superintendent and project team to maintain schedule progress.

  • Assist with managing jobsite resources and monitoring construction activities.

Punch List Execution and Closeout

  • Collaborate with the project team to complete punch list activities and ensure resolution to project standards.

  • Support the Assistant Project Manager in finalizing closeout documentation for a seamless project transition.

Relationship Building

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with Owners, Architects, and Subcontractors.

  • Foster collaboration, communication, and trust across all stakeholders.

Communication

  • Document and distribute project communications, including field conversations, telephone discussions, and meeting updates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field required. 
  • Willing to train a new graduate. 1+ years experience in the construction industry a plus
  • OSHA 10 required, OSHA 30 a plus
  • Familiarity with construction processes, drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with construction management software (Procore preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams.
  • Must be able to pass an extensive background check to work on this project.

Essential Functions 

You must be able to twist, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, and climb stairs and ladders occasionally, with the ability to walk on uneven ground while navigating active construction sites. Depth perception is required to avoid excavations and other hazards, and the ability to hear warning sounds such as horns and sirens from moving equipment is essential for safety. The role involves standing for extended periods, up to seven hours of an eight-hour shift, and the occasional lifting of items weighing up to 25 pounds.

 

Typical pay for this role

$120,000

Typical range: $80,000 to $140,000
