About this role

Element Biosciences is looking for a Contracts Manager to join its in-house Legal Team in San Diego, supporting the company's mission in life sciences innovation. You would independently draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial agreements—from NDAs and MTAs to instrument loan and reagent rental agreements—while providing legal counsel across research and business operations. The role requires balancing efficiency with risk mitigation, coordinating with internal stakeholders across functions, and contributing to the development of legal templates and procedures that scale across global teams.

This position suits someone with at least six years of contracts management or paralegal experience in biotechnology or life sciences, ideally with familiarity in data privacy matters and California notary credentials. You'll need strong drafting skills, the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, and genuine collaborative instincts—the work involves close partnership with R&D, Commercial, Operations, and senior leadership to understand business needs and anticipate legal risks. The role reports to the Senior Director of Commercial Legal & Compliance and includes occasional travel (up to 10 percent) and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

The position offers a base salary of $119,000 to $156,000, plus stock options, discretionary annual bonus, no-cost health insurance, 401k matching, and flexible paid time off. This is a full-time, in-office role at Element's San Diego headquarters.
