About this role
HP IQ's Security Team is building privacy and security into breakthrough hardware and services from the ground up. As a software engineering intern in this role, you'd work on protecting user devices, user data, and HP IQ's infrastructure—treating security not as an afterthought but as fundamental to the product itself. This is a hands-on position where you'd apply strong software engineering fundamentals to real security challenges, balancing robust protection with seamless user experience.
You'll need a solid foundation in at least one of C, C++, Java, or Python, and you should be pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related technical field. The role suits someone genuinely interested in privacy and security who can think critically about threats and vulnerabilities. If you have background knowledge in cryptography, access control, or network security, that's valuable; equally important is the mindset to approach problems with healthy paranoia and threat modeling discipline.
This is a full-time summer internship (May/June through August/September 2027) based in San Francisco, paying $45–$51 per hour depending on your qualifications and experience. You'd be working in-office within HP's AI innovation lab, where you can expect the collaborative environment and startup agility that comes with being part of a new division backed by HP's resources.
