About this role

Fanatics Collectibles is seeking a Senior Director of Software Engineering to lead the technology strategy and execution across its digital sports platform. This role sits at the executive level, requiring someone who can define multi-year technical vision, oversee multiple engineering teams and product lines, and translate business strategy into scalable platform initiatives. You'd own architecture decisions spanning live commerce, digital collectibles, and B2B platforms while managing organizational design, vendor relationships, and large-scale transformation efforts like cloud migration and system internalization.

The position demands deep technical leadership experience combined with business acumen. You'll need at least five years each in cross-functional collaboration, data-driven decision-making (SQL, analytics, KPIs), end-to-end technical ownership of large systems, and product roadmap execution. Additionally, you should have four years building and scaling engineering teams, managing vendor partnerships, and leading core digital experience initiatives, plus three years evaluating emerging technologies like AI/ML and cloud-native systems. A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and six years as a software engineer or equivalent are required.

This is a contract role based in Los Angeles with partial telecommuting flexibility and up to five percent domestic travel. The salary range is $287,000 to $307,000 annually. It suits an experienced engineering leader ready to shape technology strategy at a major scale—someone comfortable balancing innovation with technical debt, security with speed, and internal capability-building with external partnerships.
