Do you have the 1-in-a-million solution to a 1-million-egg challenge?

At Picnic, we deliver groceries to thousands of households every week. That includes selling over 1 million eggs every single week. While the vast majority arrive safe and sound, eggs remain fragile cargo, and breakage still happens too often in our supply chain. We want to crack this problem once and for all … and we need your help!

⤵️ The Challenge
We are looking for a creative and ambitious Industrial Design (Thesis) Intern to design the egg packaging of the future. Your mission? Bring our egg damage rate down to 0%.When it comes to the solution, everything is on the table:

  • Supplier collaboration (working directly with our packaging partners to turn your design into a scalable product)
No idea is too crazy, if it protects the egg, we want and will  test it!

🎯 The Impact

Your thesis won't just sit on a shelf; it will have a direct, real-world impact:
  • 🌱 Zero Food Waste: Preventing broken eggs means less wasted food in our supply chain.

  • You are a creative thinker with a hands-on prototyping mindset.
  • You combine design aesthetics with practical engineering and supply chain feasibility.
  • You are a great communicator who enjoys collaborating with internal teams and external suppliers.

About this role

Picnic is looking for an Industrial Design student to tackle a specific, high-impact problem: reducing egg breakage in their weekly delivery of over one million eggs. Your thesis project would involve designing innovative packaging solutions—exploring new materials, structural geometries, shock absorption systems, and direct collaboration with suppliers to move from concept to scalable product. This is a hands-on role where your work translates immediately into real-world impact, cutting food waste and improving customer satisfaction across thousands of households.

You should have a strong foundation in Industrial Design Engineering or a related field, with both creative problem-solving skills and practical engineering thinking. The role values prototyping mindset and the ability to communicate across internal teams and external partners. Dutch language skills are helpful but not required.

Beyond the core project, you'll work in Picnic's Amsterdam office as part of a diverse, startup-minded environment with access to professional development through their Tech Academy and language courses. The internship offers an hourly rate of 16.75 EUR, laptop provision, travel reimbursement, and perks including fresh daily lunches and wellness support.
