Experience:
12+ years of professional work experience in Golang (GO) and/or Java
Proficient in working with cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes or similar container technologies.
Experience in the Gaming Industry (ideally). Alternatively, passion for building services for games.
Strong experience with distributed, multi-tiered systems, caching mechanisms, and relational databases.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a technical field of study, or equivalent industry experience
- Able to work in-office 3 days a week in Bangalore, India

About this role
Skillz is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join its backend team in Bangalore, working on the infrastructure and services that power its mobile eSports platform. You'll be architecting and building distributed systems that handle billions of tournaments for millions of players globally, working with technologies like Golang, Java, Kubernetes, and major cloud platforms. This is a senior-level role requiring 12+ years of professional experience with strong expertise in cloud infrastructure, containerization, distributed systems, caching, and relational databases.
The ideal candidate brings deep backend engineering experience and ideally has worked in gaming or has genuine passion for building game services. You'll be joining a team of senior engineers from top-tier tech and gaming companies, operating in a startup-like environment where you're expected to collaborate across teams and contribute to product decisions. The role requires in-office presence three days a week in Bangalore.
