About this role
Newlab is seeking a senior leader to drive commercialization strategy and execution across its Detroit-based mobility, manufacturing, and industrial programs. You'd own program delivery end-to-end—from scoping new partnerships with automotive OEMs, tier-one suppliers, and government entities, to managing cross-functional teams and ensuring startups reach commercial pilots and scale. This is fundamentally a hands-on role that bridges global innovation with regional industrial partners, requiring you to manage both the relationship dynamics and the operational details that determine whether programs succeed.
The position demands someone with at least six years leading complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives in manufacturing or deep tech, ideally with consulting experience. You'll need strong financial acumen to manage program P&Ls and resource allocation, the ability to navigate matrixed teams, and genuine fluency in hard technologies—whether through a STEM background or proven depth in complex technical domains. Executive presence and senior partner management skills are essential; you'll spend significant time with C-suite sponsors and government leaders.
Beyond the core delivery work, you'll identify expansion opportunities to grow program revenue, build systems that reduce operational friction, and partner with Newlab's leadership to develop durable commercial relationships. The role is based in Detroit and requires in-office presence. Compensation ranges from $160,000 to $190,000 with performance bonus eligibility and comprehensive benefits.
