About this role
Burgess & Niple is seeking a Financial Analyst to support rate studies and financial planning for municipal solid waste, water, and wastewater systems. You'll spend your time gathering and validating operational and billing data from utilities and municipalities, then building Excel models to forecast revenues, allocate costs, and test rate scenarios. The work feeds directly into client decisions about rate structures, affordability, and long-term financial sustainability—meaning your analysis has real consequences for how communities fund essential services.
The role demands strong Excel skills and comfort with financial modeling, but equally important is your ability to manage competing priorities, coordinate across internal teams and external clients, and turn raw data into clear reports and presentations. You'll also research municipal codes, contracts, and regulatory requirements to ensure recommendations are defensible. This is collaborative work that requires attention to detail and ownership of deliverables, not independent analysis in isolation.
You'll need a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field, plus two to eight years of direct experience in utility rate studies or similar analysis. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is essential, and the ability to use AI tools responsibly for research and quality control is expected. The position is based in Phoenix and requires in-office work.
