Construction Estimator – Orlando, FL

About the Opportunity
A well-established construction organization is seeking a mid-level Estimator to join its growing team in the Orlando, Florida market.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on estimating experience and be comfortable developing and submitting competitive bids without requiring extensive training. Experience with FDOT projects is highly preferred, along with proficiency using estimating and bidding platforms such as HCSS, Bid-to-Win, or similar systems.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced estimator who wants to continue developing professionally while working on significant transportation and infrastructure projects throughout Florida.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and competitive construction estimates
- Review project plans, specifications, drawings, and bid documents
- Perform quantity takeoffs and develop project pricing
- Prepare and submit bids in accordance with project requirements
- Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations
- Identify project risks, exclusions, and potential cost impacts
- Coordinate with project management, operations, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Research labor, equipment, and material costs
- Maintain accurate estimating documentation
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and project reviews
- Support business development and operations teams throughout the bidding process
Required Qualifications
- Mid-level construction estimating experience
- Demonstrated experience preparing and submitting construction bids
- Experience with FDOT projects is required
- Experience with transportation, roadway, infrastructure, or heavy civil construction preferred
- Ability to independently perform quantity takeoffs and cost estimates
- Strong understanding of construction plans and specifications
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with one or more of the following:
- HCSS
- Bid-to-Win
- HeavyBid
- Bluebeam
- Planswift
- Other construction estimating/bidding software
Experience with FDOT specifications, standards, and bidding processes is highly desirable.
Candidate Profile
The hiring team is looking for someone who:
- Can step into the role with existing estimating knowledge
- Does not require extensive training on basic bid submission processes
- Has experience taking a project from plans and specifications through completed bid
- Understands Florida transportation construction
- Is comfortable working independently while collaborating with operations and project teams
