About this role

Gibson Dunn's Research and Information Management Department is seeking a Senior Research Analyst to serve as a primary research resource for attorneys across all practice areas at this major global law firm. You would conduct complex legal and business research—often multijurisdictional—with minimal supervision, manage assignments independently from intake through delivery, and take the lead on evaluating new research platforms and tools. The role also involves training junior analysts and attorneys on research resources, supporting client development through background and competitive intelligence work, and exploring how generative AI and emerging technologies can improve research quality and efficiency.

This position calls for six to eight years of law firm or professional services research experience, ideally with exposure to corporate practices like M&A, capital markets, or securities. You'll need strong proficiency across major legal databases (Lexis+, Westlaw Precision, Bloomberg Law, Lex Machina, and others) and a master's in library science or a JD. Beyond technical skills, the role demands excellent judgment, communication, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and meeting tight deadlines. You'll report to the Litigation Research Manager and participate in rotating weekend coverage.

Based in Los Angeles and fully in-office, the position offers a salary range of $125,000 to $145,000, along with comprehensive benefits including health care, retirement, paid time off, parental leave, and performance-based bonuses.
