- Track regulatory developments and government policy globally and within China that are relevant to commodity markets and trading.
- Identify, monitor, and evaluate upcoming catalysts and structural developments across the commodity markets we trade.
- Generate trading ideas based on expected volatility and market direction, working closely with the trading team to evaluate and execute strategies.

- Develop and maintain data models, dashboards, and research tools using Python, SQL, and other analytics platforms.
Your Skills and Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in a commodities-focused analytical role within the buy-side, sell-side, consulting, trading house, or a related environment.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
- Strong understanding of Chinese commodity markets, commodity value chains, and the macroeconomic factors that influence them.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL for data handling, modelling, and visualisation.
- Familiarity with Bloomberg or other market intelligence platforms.
- Fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English, both written and spoken.
- High attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

About this role
Supporting IMC's trading desk in Hong Kong requires someone who can synthesize complex market data into actionable intelligence. As a Commodities Analyst, you'll work at the intersection of fundamental research and live trading, analyzing Chinese and global commodity markets—oil, LNG, petrochemicals, base metals, and coal—while tracking supply chains, regulatory shifts, and macroeconomic drivers that move prices. You'll partner directly with traders and quantitative researchers to generate trading ideas, monitor catalysts, and maintain the data models and dashboards that keep the team informed in real time.
This role demands both analytical depth and technical skill. You'll need 3+ years of commodities experience from a buy-side, sell-side, or trading environment, plus solid proficiency in Python and SQL to build and maintain your own analytical tools. A background in Economics, Finance, Engineering, or Data Science is expected. Equally important is fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English and a genuine grasp of Chinese commodity markets and value chain dynamics—this isn't a peripheral market for IMC, it's central to the mandate.
If you thrive in fast-paced, collaborative settings where your research directly influences trading decisions, and you have the technical chops to move beyond spreadsheets into real data modeling, this is worth your attention. The role is in-office in Hong Kong, so location flexibility isn't an option.
