About this role
At Gates Hudson & Associates, the Leasing Consultant role centers on connecting prospective residents with apartments while managing the full resident lifecycle at a Richmond-based community. You'll spend your time greeting and touring prospects, qualifying their needs, presenting available units and amenities, and closing leases—then shift into retention mode by following up on maintenance requests, addressing concerns, and working to keep current residents satisfied. The position also requires maintaining the physical community: ensuring the leasing office, model units, and common areas stay tour-ready, conducting inspections during move-ins and move-outs, and staying current on local market conditions to feed ideas back to the Property Manager.
This is fundamentally a customer-facing sales and service role that demands strong communication skills and the ability to build quick rapport. You'll need a high school diploma and a detail-oriented approach to paperwork and follow-up. While two or more years of leasing experience is preferred, the company will consider candidates with a background in customer service, sales, or hospitality who demonstrate self-motivation and a service-oriented mindset. Be prepared for weekend availability, as most prospect tours happen then.
If you thrive on relationship-building, enjoy a mix of sales and operations work, and want to be part of an onsite team in a residential property management setting, this role offers a clear path to contribute to leasing goals while supporting resident satisfaction.
