About this role
Leading a team responsible for American Equity's enterprise API platform, this manager role sits at the intersection of technical strategy and people leadership. You'd oversee eight to twelve developers and business analysts—a mix of employees and consultants, including offshore team members—while owning the technical roadmap for the AE Connect platform across multiple business domains. The position demands hands-on expertise in .NET, REST APIs, and cloud architecture (ideally AWS), paired with the ability to enforce standards, drive adoption of modern integration patterns, and ensure production stability at scale.
The work spans both strategic and operational ground. You'll partner with Enterprise Architecture on long-term modernization, collaborate with Product Owners and business stakeholders to translate requirements into solutions, and establish governance around API lifecycle, versioning, and security. Equally important is the management side: building and retaining talent, fostering engineering excellence through CI/CD and automated testing practices, driving continuous improvement metrics, and creating an environment where your team can deliver on schedule and within scope.
This is a contract position based in Des Moines requiring full-time in-office presence. It suits someone with at least six years of progressive technical experience, proven success managing teams in Agile environments, and a track record implementing enterprise API platforms. Prior supervisory experience is preferred but not required if your technical leadership and platform delivery background is strong.
