About this role

Verifone's Wellington office is seeking a Senior Manager to build and oversee the company's payments compliance framework across New Zealand's financial ecosystem. This role sits at the intersection of card scheme operations, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder relationships—you'll own compliance across Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and UnionPay while serving as Verifone's primary contact with Payments NZ, the Commerce Commission, the Department of Internal Affairs, and major financial institutions. The position demands someone who can translate complex scheme rules and regulatory obligations into operational reality, manage governance frameworks and evidence trails, and coordinate cross-functional teams to implement compliance requirements as the business evolves.

The ideal candidate brings substantial experience in payments, banking, or card processing environments, with demonstrated expertise in scheme mandates, compliance frameworks, and stakeholder management. You'll need to interpret regulatory developments, assess their impact on Verifone's services and partnerships, and guide internal teams on compliance obligations. Background in an acquiring bank, issuing bank, payment processor, or fintech is valued, as is familiarity with card transaction lifecycles, switch operations, and card scheme certification processes.

This is an in-office role based in Wellington, reflecting Verifone's commitment to co-located teams. The work spans established compliance governance alongside emerging areas like Open Banking, digital identity, and biometric security frameworks—offering scope to shape how Verifone navigates New Zealand's evolving payments landscape.
