About this role
Astranis designs and operates satellites for high-orbit communications serving governments, enterprises, and the U.S. military. This twelve-week Associate Engineer position offers hands-on work on hardware and software projects with real stakes—past interns have designed components now in orbit, and several have transitioned to full-time roles. You'll work alongside the engineering team at their Northern California headquarters on problems of genuine complexity and importance.
The role requires a completed four-year degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace, or a closely related technical field like physics or applied math. You should have demonstrated experience designing, building, and testing hardware from the ground up and thrive in fast-paced, hands-on environments. CAD proficiency, familiarity with stress or thermal analysis software, and background in electromechanical or control system design are valuable but not required. U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency is mandatory due to space technology export regulations.
The position is salaried at $1,925 per week and based in San Francisco, requiring in-office work. This internship suits recent graduates or those about to complete their degree who want meaningful engineering experience on projects that matter and a potential pathway into the aerospace industry.
