Description

DRW is a diversified trading firm with over 3 decades of experience bringing sophisticated technology and exceptional people together to operate in markets around the world. We value autonomy and the ability to quickly pivot to capture opportunities, so we operate using our own capital and trading at our own risk.

Headquartered in Chicago with offices throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia, we trade a variety of asset classes including Fixed Income, ETFs, Equities, FX, Commodities and Energy across all major global markets. We have also leveraged our expertise and technology to expand into three non-traditional strategies: real estate, venture capital and cryptoassets.

We operate with respect, curiosity and open minds. The people who thrive here share our belief that it’s not just what we do that matters–it's how we do it. DRW is a place of high expectations, integrity, innovation and a willingness to challenge consensus.

The Algorithmic Trading Team is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer for our Chicago office.  The SRE team is critical to the success of our trading – ensuring that our production trading systems, test environment and research pipeline are working flawlessly.

We’re looking for a Site Reliability Engineer who thrives at the intersection of software, trading and infrastructure – someone who creates observability that surfaces issues before they ever cause a problem, owns the response when things go wrong, and relentlessly drives automation that eliminates friction and keeps our team focused on our goals.

What you will do:

  • Work with software engineers and traders to provide 24/7 first line support of our trading, testing, and research environment.
  • Proactively monitor and identify issues before they impact trading.  Define and automate observability around application SLAs and build anomaly detectors that surface problems early.
  • Oversee and maintain our test trading environment.  Keep the environment running smoothly and pursue automation of routine interventions required to maintain a stable test platform for development.
  • Standardize CI/CD and operational processes across development teams to reduce friction and speed up delivery.  Improve deployment scripts and release verification processes.
  • Perform stress tests and verify SLAs under load. Work with application and devops engineers to design and improve support for this type of testing.
  • Work closely with traders, engineers, system administrators, data centers, networking, and other shared services.

 What you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent practical background.
  • 3-10+ years of hands-on software development or SRE Experience
  • Demonstrated experience with observability tools – logging, metrics and tracing
  • Hands on development experience in scripting languages like Bash, Python, or Ruby
  • An automation-first approach to problem solving – you understand that manual processes don’t scale, and your instinct is to eliminate them before they become a bottleneck.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of network communications including comprehensive understanding of the Linux TCP-IP stack, use of multicast networking, and network protocol interactions.
  • Solid diagnostic capabilities from the application layer through the network and low-level hardware.
  • Experience with network capture and time synchronization.
  • High level of ownership and accountability, reliability, and strong follow through.
  • Positive AI mentality and experience with AI agents to accelerate SRE tasks.

The annual base salary range for this position is $130,000 to $225,000 depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and relevant skill set. The position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition, DRW offers a comprehensive suite of employee benefits including group medical, pharmacy, dental and vision insurance, 401k (with discretionary employer match), short and long-term disability, life and AD&D insurance, health savings accounts, and flexible spending accounts.

About this role

DRW's Algorithmic Trading Team needs an SRE who can keep their production trading systems, test environments, and research infrastructure running flawlessly around the clock. You'd be the first line of defense for a firm that trades across multiple asset classes and geographies, working directly with software engineers and traders to prevent issues before they impact live trading. The role demands someone equally comfortable with infrastructure automation, network diagnostics, and application-level observability—someone who sees manual processes as problems to be solved, not workflows to maintain.

The position sits at the intersection of software engineering, trading operations, and infrastructure. You'll design and build observability systems that surface anomalies early, standardize CI/CD and deployment processes across teams, oversee the test environment, and conduct stress testing to verify SLAs under load. This requires solid hands-on experience with scripting languages, logging and metrics tools, and deep knowledge of Linux networking including TCP-IP, multicast, and network capture. You should also have experience with AI agents as tools to accelerate SRE work.

Candidates need a computer science degree or equivalent practical background plus 3–10+ years in software development or SRE roles. The salary range is $130,000 to $225,000 based on experience, plus discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits. This is an in-office role in Chicago.
