Purpose of the role:
The analyst is required to generate reports using MySQL/Qlikview/Looker/Excel/etc. perform analysis, and provide insights/recommendations to stakeholders (Growth Team) without supervision. The analyst will be required to take ownership of established reporting topics and their growth, with some guidance required for their growth. The analyst will also be required to independently meet with stakeholders/Product Managers to discuss reporting requirements in various areas across the business and propose, spec & implement solutions with some guidance from senior team members. Meetings with BI devs to implement/test solutions are required, but closely managed.
Your responsibilities will include:
Generate regular reports and provide insights/recommendations to the business on:
- Customer performance and metrics to drive business objectives
- Customer order and engagement behaviour
- Analyse the success and effectiveness of product and process changes
- Identify opportunities for growth within the business based on demand, and competitor activity.
- Facilitate the performance improvement of the growth team within the business through the identification of operational and product weaknesses through testing/analysis and recommending process changes.
- Implementing reporting requirements and facilitating report automation with the BI team.
- Assisting the Growth Team in compiling special enquiry reports.
- Meeting with stakeholders/Product Managers to discuss reporting requirements in various areas across the business and propose, spec & implement solutions with some guidance from senior team members.
Attributes Required:
- Attention to detail in a high pressure environment.
- Strong analytical ability.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets skills.
- Intermediate SQL skills Experience working with a visualisation platform (e.g. Qlikview, Looker, Tableau, PowerBI)
- Ability to verbalise and visualise findings/results.
- Ability to identify areas of improvement in current processes.
- Ability to use logic and common sense to arrive at conclusions
Qualifications and experience:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in commerce, science or engineering.
- 2+ years experience in an operations, finance, consulting, analysis or BI environment

About this role
At Mr D, a fast-growing division of the Takealot Group, you'd be responsible for turning data into actionable business insights. Working in Cape Town on-site, you'll generate regular reports using SQL, Excel, and visualization tools like Looker or Qlikview to track customer performance, order behavior, and engagement metrics. Your analysis will feed directly into the Growth Team's decision-making, and you'll also own established reporting topics, meeting with stakeholders and Product Managers to understand their needs, then spec and implement solutions with guidance from senior analysts.
The role sits at the intersection of analytics and operations improvement. Beyond reporting, you'll identify growth opportunities by analyzing competitor activity and demand patterns, test product and process changes to measure their impact, and work with the BI team to automate reporting where possible. You'll need strong Excel skills, intermediate SQL, and experience with at least one visualization platform; equally important is the ability to communicate findings clearly and spot process weaknesses that others might miss.
This is a mid-level position suited to someone with 2+ years in operations, finance, consulting, analysis, or BI—typically backed by a relevant degree in commerce, science, or engineering.
