About this role
Shein's Database Engineering team in San Diego is seeking someone to own the reliability and performance of mission-critical database infrastructure serving a global fashion retailer at scale. You'd be responsible for maintaining highly available production environments, diagnosing and resolving database issues, tuning performance, and automating operational work through tooling and scripting. This is a hands-on role that requires both depth in database systems and breadth across the full stack—from Linux administration to cloud platforms to application-level design guidance.
The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in database fundamentals, hands-on MySQL experience, and comfort working across distributed systems in cloud environments like Azure. You'll need proficiency in multiple scripting languages, a systematic approach to troubleshooting, and the ability to remain composed during incidents. The role includes 24/7 on-call rotation and collaboration with geographically distributed teams, so strong communication and ownership mindset matter as much as technical chops. Experience with MySQL at scale, distributed databases like Clickhouse or MongoDB, or Percona tooling would strengthen your candidacy.
The position is based in San Diego and requires in-office work, with compensation ranging from $86,400 to $138,000. Benefits include comprehensive healthcare, 401(k) matching, flexible time off, catered lunches, and gym access.
