Description

About the position:

As aPre-Sales Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in positioning AvePoint solutions for our customers, by designing and delivering tailored solutions that address complex business challenges.

Leveraging your deep business and technical expertise and strong consultative skills, you will work closely with customers, the virtual account teams (VAT), and product specialists to understand requirements, design solutions, and demonstrate the value of AvePoint’s offerings

As the technical lead for opportunities and key customers, you’ll define and drive the technical win strategy from start to finish; proactively uncovering customer challenges, shaping solution approaches, and moving the deal forward from a technical standpoint. You will be involved from discovery calls, to delivering compelling technical presentations and demos, to taking charge of proof-of-concept initiatives and providing expert guidance throughout both pre-sales and post-sales phases.

You’ll operate with a high-level of independence and autonomy, while collaborating closely with sales teams and senior technical leaders to ensure customers achieve outstanding results.

This is a role for someone who brings:

  • Technical aptitude: you can solve complex technical challenges independently, drawing on deep expertise. You confidently navigate and unblock challenges handling objections and risks by anchoring discussions in outcomes, value, and impact.
  • Collaboration, innovation & teamwork: you thrive working as part of a team, collaborating to deliver seamless and high impact customer outcomes. You actively contribute ideas that improve how the team operates and take initiative to turn those ideas into action. You share knowledge freely, support and mentor others, and hold yourself and your peers to standards that raise the bar for customer impact. You go beyond the minimum to ensure customers receive thoughtful, well aligned solutions that reflect collective expertise rather than individual effort.
  • Initiative & ownership: you operate proactively rather than reactively, taking accountability for your customers, opportunities, and outcomes. You anticipate what’s needed before being asked and take action to move things forward. You own problems end to end, escalate early when needed, and consistently act in the best interests of the customer and the wider team.
  • Growth mindset: you actively seek out opportunities to develop new skills, embrace challenges as learning experiences, and take the initiative to expand your expertise and contribute to your own success, the team's success and the success of AvePoint.
  • Customer‑first mindset: you take ownership of strategic focus customers, acting as the primary technical advisor who builds proactive, long‑term relationships, leads with intent, and translates customer objectives into clear solution direction, roadmap influence, and measurable outcomes across the account lifecycle

What you’ll do

  • Lead deep discovery to understand customer objectives and map them to a compelling solution vision.
  • Deliver high-impact technical presentations and tailored demonstrations.
  • Craft value narratives that resonate with different stakeholders (business and technical) and influence the customer’s buying vision.
  • Lead solution design and engineering activities across the sales cycle with a high degree of autonomy, ensuring technical feasibility that aligns with the customers business outcomes.
  • Lead in writing proposals in response to RFxs to showcase how the AvePoint product line can satisfy customer requirements.
  • Support go-to-market initiatives by developing and delivering product demonstrations, workshops, white papers and thought leadership content.

What you bring

  • Demonstrated experience in a customer-facing presales or technical consulting roles proposing software solutions at all levels of a customer organisation.
  • Ability to engage in strategic thinking to facilitate deal closure, leveraging a blend of technical expertise and a sales-oriented mindset.
  • Confidence presenting to a range of audiences, and the ability to lead conversations and “carry meetings.”
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 architecture, components, and configuration, including areas such as Purview, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Familiarity with cloud ecosystems beyond Microsoft (e.g., Google, Salesforce, other SaaS offerings).
  • Ability to solve complex technical challenges independently and translate business needs into actionable technical designs.

Working model

  • Hybrid: Attendance in the office at least 3 times per week.
  • Availability during core working hours 8:30am–5:30pm.
  • Ability to travel with the needs of the role.

Why join us

You’ll join a Solution Engineering team that values innovation, collaboration, and exceeding customer expectations that provides a space to shape how we win technically in ANZ, and build solutions that genuinely help customers solve complex challenges.

About this role

At AvePoint, this Pre-Sales Engineer role puts you at the technical center of the sales cycle, owning the strategy and execution that turns customer challenges into compelling solution wins. You'll lead discovery conversations, design tailored approaches to complex problems, deliver high-impact demos and presentations, and guide proof-of-concept initiatives—working with autonomy while collaborating closely with sales teams and product specialists. The role spans the full customer journey, from initial technical assessments through to post-sales support, requiring you to translate business objectives into clear technical direction and build long-term strategic relationships.

The ideal candidate brings demonstrated presales or technical consulting experience selling software solutions across organizational levels, with strong Microsoft 365 expertise (Purview, SharePoint, Teams) and familiarity with broader cloud ecosystems. You'll need the ability to solve complex technical problems independently, present confidently to mixed audiences, and think strategically about deal closure. Beyond technical chops, this role demands a proactive, customer-first mindset—anticipating needs, taking ownership end-to-end, and collaborating generously to deliver outcomes that reflect collective expertise rather than individual effort.

Based in Sydney, you'll work in-office at least three days per week during core hours, with travel as needed. AvePoint offers competitive compensation, hybrid flexibility, career progression across their global footprint, and enhanced PTO including birthday and family days.
