About this role
Working in Vermont's only 24/7 specialty and emergency hospital, you'd split your time between the fast-paced ER floor and the dedicated ICU unit at Burlington Emergency & Veterinary Specialists. This hybrid role demands hands-on technical skills—triage, phlebotomy, cystocentesis, anesthesia monitoring, CPR, and ICU patient care—alongside the ability to communicate clearly with clients about treatment plans and costs. You'd be part of a high-acuity environment where patient stability assessment and advanced nursing procedures are daily work.
The position suits veterinary technicians with at least two years of hospital experience, ideally with an emergency background, though certification or licensure is preferred rather than required. You'll need to thrive in collaboration, stay organized under pressure, and genuinely care about both animal patients and their owners. The role offers genuine learning opportunities across multiple specialties—the hospital provides dentistry, internal medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, and surgery services—so there's real potential to deepen your expertise.
Compensation runs $26–$32 per hour based on experience and credentials, with shift differentials for overnight work. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k) matching after six months; paid time off; continuing education support; and discounts on veterinary care for your own pets. This is a full-time, in-office position in Williston, Vermont.
