Description

At IMC, technology is not a department; it’s at the heart of everything we do. Developed in-house, our innovative software makes millions of trading decisions daily, and we win by making better and faster decisions than our competition.

IMC's Platform Engineering team in Sydney works closely with our global counterparts to deliver the runtime environments and services on which IMC's cutting-edge trading and business applications run. We work on a wide variety of systems and tools that utilize a combination of in-house, open source, and third-party technologies. We are currently looking to expand our Application Platform team.

The Application Platform team helps turn IMC software into running applications. We develop and operate scalable, self-service systems and tools to configure, distribute, deploy, upgrade, and operate trading and supporting components in data centers around the world. We use input gathered from a range of internal stakeholders to design and implement creative solutions to efficiently keep tens of thousands of services and applications running and up to date.

Your Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop, test, deploy, and maintain high-performance, globally distributed Go applications.
  • Collaborate with teammates, stakeholders, and internal customers across local and global teams.
  • Partner with customers to understand their needs and design platform capabilities that help them configure, deploy, and operate software more effectively.
  • Support customers, unblock teams, and turn recurring issues into platform improvements.
  • Own the end-to-end service lifecycle, from requirements gathering and implementation to deployment, operation, and continuous improvement.
  • Help operate and support the team's systems during Sydney business hours.
  • Use automated testing and frequent deployments to deliver high-quality features quickly and iteratively.
  • Balance trade-offs between latency, throughput, simplicity, scalability, reliability, and maintainability in a complex technology landscape.

Your Skills and Experience:

  • 1-3 years of professional software engineering experience and proficiency in a programming language is required (Go, Python, or Java)
  • Strong analytical skills and interest in solving complex problems programmatically
  • Experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and Linux environments.
  • Exposure to distributed computing and modern cloud-native software design.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • You have a DevOps mindset and are comfortable working across the entire application lifecycle, from development and testing to deployment and operations.
  • Prior knowledge of financial markets or trading is not required, but curiosity and a willingness to learn are essential.

About this role

IMC's Application Platform team operates the infrastructure that powers the firm's trading systems globally—managing the deployment, configuration, and operation of tens of thousands of services across data centers worldwide. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and platform operations, where you'd develop Go applications that enable other teams to deploy and manage their own software more effectively. You'd own the full lifecycle of these systems, from gathering requirements with internal customers to running them in production, and you'd use your analytical skills to turn recurring operational problems into scalable platform solutions.

The position suits someone with 1–3 years of professional engineering experience who's comfortable working across the entire stack: writing code, building automated tests and CI/CD pipelines, and supporting systems in production. Hands-on familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and Linux is expected, along with a solid grounding in at least one of Go, Python, or Java. Beyond technical chops, you'll need strong communication skills to collaborate across teams and a DevOps mindset that values reliability and iterative improvement over perfection.

This is an in-office role in Sydney, and you'll support the team's systems during local business hours. No background in trading or finance is necessary—IMC values curiosity and a willingness to learn the domain as you go.
