Description
Acadian Asset Management is a global, systematic investment manager at the forefront of data-driven investing since 1986. Headquartered in Boston, with locations in Singapore, London, and Sydney, we manage over $232 billion on behalf of leading institutions worldwide—including pension funds, endowments, foundations, and sovereign wealth funds. We harness advanced technology, rich datasets, and multidisciplinary expertise to help clients navigate complex markets and uncover insights that may be overlooked by traditional approaches.
What sets Acadian apart is our people. We foster a collaborative, intellectually curious environment where ideas are tested, diverse perspectives are welcomed, and innovation thrives. We’re united by a shared purpose: delivering effective client outcomes and supporting one another in work that’s both challenging and rewarding. We offer a flexible hybrid work environment, strong benefits, and a casual but focused office culture—all designed to support the meaningful, collaborative work that defines Acadian.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an ESG Quant Analyst - Stewardship Specialist to join the Responsible Investing team in Sydney. Unlike a traditional stewardship role, this position sits within a quantitative investment environment and will help drive Acadian's ESG research by combining direct company engagements with the development of scalable research tools and datasets. The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, highly analytical, and equally enjoy working with large datasets as engaging with company management teams. They will thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and be excited by the opportunity to apply AI techniques.
Acadian supports a hybrid work environment; employees are on-site in the Sydney office 3 days a week.
What You'll Do:
- Coordinate and lead engagement activities with investee companies across assigned regions, incorporate client-specific stewardship priorities, monitor controversies, and speak directly to companies.
- Capture company intelligence through engagements, support quantitative ESG assessments of portfolio holdings, maintain engagement records and databases, and produce high-quality case studies, quarterly updates, and stewardship reporting for both internal and external audiences.
- Share engagement insights regularly with portfolio managers, researchers and sustainability specialists to support the development of proprietary signals, analytics, and spur new ESG research ideas.
- Leverage Python and AI tools to acquire, clean, transform, and analyse large structured and unstructured datasets and contribute to the development of AI-enabled stewardship tools.
We’re Looking for Teammates With:
- Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years of experience on the buy-side or sell-side.
- Demonstrated aptitude for programming (Python and SQL), conducting exploratory data analysis, and extracting insights from large datasets.
- Experience with generative AI tools including OpenAI and Claude code.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analytical concepts into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and collaborate effectively across global teams and time zones.
- A demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, including a willingness to pursue relevant professional qualifications such as the CFA Sustainable Investing Certificate.

About this role
Acadian Asset Management's Responsible Investing team in Sydney is building a hybrid role that bridges traditional stewardship work with quantitative research. You'd lead direct engagements with portfolio companies across your assigned regions while simultaneously developing scalable tools and datasets to support ESG analysis at scale. This means splitting your time between conversations with company management teams and analytical work—using Python, SQL, and AI tools to extract insights from structured and unstructured data that feed into proprietary signals and research ideas shared across the firm.
The role suits someone with 1–2 years of buy-side or sell-side experience who is equally comfortable with programming and people. You'll need solid Python and SQL skills, hands-on experience with generative AI tools like OpenAI and Claude, and the ability to translate technical findings into clear narratives for portfolio managers and other stakeholders. Strong organizational skills matter too, since you'll juggle multiple engagement projects, maintain databases, produce reporting, and collaborate across global teams while working hybrid from the Sydney office three days a week.
This is a genuine blend of stewardship and quant work rather than a traditional ESG role—it appeals to analytically minded people who want to engage directly with companies and aren't content to stay purely in data. Acadian emphasizes intellectual curiosity and continuous learning; they note a willingness to pursue credentials like the CFA Sustainable Investing Certificate as a plus.
