About this role
Brattle's securities practice in Sydney handles high-stakes disputes where financial analysis directly shapes litigation outcomes. As an Associate, you would work on complex cases involving shareholder claims, regulatory investigations, and expert evidence—building damages models, assessing materiality, and critically evaluating opposing analyses. The role sits at the intersection of finance, accounting, and economics, requiring you to translate intricate financial questions into rigorous, defensible conclusions that support expert testimony before courts and arbitration panels.
This is a project-based role where you would contribute as a core team member from research design through client delivery. You'll support Principals and academic advisors while gradually taking on greater responsibility for project management, team supervision, and client relationship building. The position offers structured development with increasing complexity, moving from analytical work toward business development and expert positioning as you progress.
The ideal candidate holds a PhD in Finance, Financial Economics, or Accounting (or an MBA with strong finance or accounting credentials) and brings several years of relevant experience from economic consulting, public accounting, investment banking, or similar environments. You'll need strong quantitative skills—Excel proficiency is essential, with statistical software experience a plus—alongside excellent project management and communication abilities. Success here requires intellectual curiosity about valuation, accounting, and business strategy, combined with the drive to build your own expertise and reputation within a collaborative firm culture.
